Break A Leg.
Who Can Apply
The call is open to all directors who have not yet been paid professionally to direct a play in London. You must be 18 years of age or older and able to demonstrate a comfortable knowledge of theatre directing and what it involves. We are especially looking for directors who have a vision for the future and are seeking a career in the industry.
How To Apply
For your cover letter please tell us about you and why you think why you would be the perfect candidate for the project. We want to hear about the most recent project you directed, or assistant directed on, what your vision for the project was and how you materialised it. We’d also like you to outline your thoughts about the future of London theatre and the shape you see it taking.
The deadline for us to receive your submission is Friday, 27 March 2015.
Please send your submission to Allen Liedkie at: email@example.com
After we’ve had the chance to go through the applications we will short list 14 directors for a face to face meeting with the production team. These will take place on Monday, 30th March and Wednesday, 1st April and will last approximately 45 minutes.
We will announce the seven directors chosen to participate on Thursday, 2nd April.
Throughout the month of April you will be required to meet with your team for 1 read through and 3 rehearsals.
The read through will last appoximately 3 – 4 hours and will take place on Tuesday, 7 April.
The 3 rehearsals will last between 2 – 3 hours per meeting. We will work with you to schedule times which suite everyone accordingly. This might require your availability in the evenings and weekends depending on the teams schedule and space requirements.
You will be matched with an established industry professional director who will guide you through the directing process with their wisdom and insight. They will be present at two rehearsals during the rehearsal period for you to ask any questions or get their advice. This will be your opportunity to learn from creative professionals and get the tricks of the trade.
Performance Day and Evening of Shows
On Saturday, 9th May you will be required from 2PM for the get in and to rehearse your plays in the space. The evening will culminate with invited industry guests, friends, and family coming to see your work with the shows starting at 6:30PM. Afterwards we’ll have a chance for those in attendance to meet and mingle with everyone in the theatre bar.
Good luck and we look forward to receiving your submissions!
